Luis "Mayari" Skerrett

Luis “Mayarí” Skerrett is a Puerto Rican trumpet player, arranger, and bandleader whose work bridges salsa, Latin jazz, and Puerto Rico’s Afro-Caribbean traditions. As an arranger and key contributor to Pianomba Sonora, he helped shape the ensemble’s distinctive fusion of bomba and plena rhythms with the power of a salsa trumpet section.

His arranging credits include works such as “África sabe a tambó” and “Dónde está Trinidad.” Mayarí has also led his own Latin Jazz Ensemble, performing at cultural events and jazz festivals in Puerto Rico. His musicianship combines the strength and energy of the trumpet with a deep understanding of Puerto Rican rhythm, orchestration, and contemporary tropical music.
